Instead, we encourage everyone to take a FIELD TRIP to hear some amazing Mizrachi (Middle Eastern) music and experience a Sefardi Shabbat at Ahavath Achim!

A special one-time-only pre-Shabbat concert!

Ladino, Iraqi-, and Moroccan-Jewish classics, contemporary Israeli tunes, piyuttim, pizmonim, and more, played by: Dr. Ariel Lazarus, an award-winning composer, guitarist, and scholar of Sephardi culture, Shir Ifrah, a renowned vocalist and expert in moroccan piyyut (Jewish liturgical song), Yair Dalal, a world-famous Israeli musician, composer, and peace activist of Iraqi-Jewish descent, and Dror Sinai, master Israeli percussionist.

The concert will be followed by a short social with the musicians, then Kabbalat Shabbat and Arvit services in our sanctuary.

KVELL: From Melissa Grossman-Naples - Our son, Rafi, will be graduating from Berkeley Law Friday May 15th. He will be going to his new job as an attorney in San Francisco working for the Eviction Defense Collaborative starting in September. Our two 17 year old daughters will be graduating from high school on June 5th! Ziva will be attending the University of Oregon as a music and dance major and Zohara will be attending Howard University as a criminology social justice major. We are so proud of all our awesome kids.

Chantlings will be meeting most every last Sunday of the month, 11-12 PST, over Zoom or in person at Zahavi’s in West Linn. Check with her if you’d like to join in person.

This session is a nourishing, meditative, almost continuous hour of chanting with mindful guidance and kavanot (setting of intentions) in between.

In ancient times, a sheaf/measure (omer) of barley was brought to the Temple on the second day of Pesach (Passover). The 7 weeks between Pesach and Shavuot (Shavuot literally means "Weeks," a week of weeks) are counted each night. This practice of counting the omer has agricultural and biblical roots in addition to being a spiritual journey from liberation (from slavery in Egypt) to revelation (of Torah on Mount Sinai)…Click here to read more.

JFCS currently has food gift cards available to support individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. Additionally, in partnership with Congregation Neveh Shalom, they are offering pre-packaged, nonperishable food bags for those in need. Individuals are welcome to receive both a gift card and a food bag.
